Q. My diamond ring sparkles so radiantly when it’s clean. How can I keep it looking bright and beautiful? Is it alright to wash dishes or bath with it on?
A. The light reflected off a sparkling diamond always catches the eye. Keeping your diamond clean is essential to making it shine brightly. Bathing with it on won’t hurt but you might want to keep them off while doing dishes to avoid damaging the setting. Additionally, losing your diamond in the disposal is one of life’s most panicked moments! That said, keeping your diamond ring clean is a simple task. Start by using a simple solution of warm water and mild dish soap. Dawn is one of my favorites for cutting through oils from hand creams and gels. Mix a few drops and simply brush with a soft bristle toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and you’re good to go. Do this once month to avoid building goop and crud on the prongs of your setting. Now be careful! This is a good solution for diamonds but brushing may harm other stones like emeralds. It’s also a good idea to go and have your jeweler professionally clean your ring once a year. One advantage of this is he will usually inspect it for you. This insures that the stone, the band, and the setting are all in good order. Plus, it never hurts to look at something new while you’re there! If you have any other questions you can go by any of our four locations and speak with our expert jewelers.
